Than help me show her how much you love her.
I am Donna's Granddaughter, Candace. As many of you might know, Donna will be turning 80 on August 14th 2009. I was trying to come up with a gift that would truely mean something to Donna and show her what her life has ment to so many people. I would like to make her a book to showcase her life and all of the people that she has touched hearts with.
What I am asking for you to do is simple. E-mail me a letter, note, story, poem... etc. about Donna with the first line starting as "I love you, because..." candacetealeaves@gmail.com

Mom,
I luv you because......you have always lived your life to the fullest. Anything you undertake, you jump in with both feet and give it your all. You never commit to anything half-heartedly.
As a kid, I always remember things at our house being larger than life. Every holiday was a grand occasion, every birthday party was the best in the neighborhood. Even the homemade popsicles had to be extra special, taking all day to freeze layer upon layer of colors and flavors.
The most ordinary and simple things were always made to be fun and special. The huge paper bag full of popcorn and a night at the drive-in became a big adventure. Great road trips to California to see Julie and Richard and the boys, to Yellowstone, and Colorado. And especially the camping weekends at Nebo Creek. My favorite camping memory is of you and Blanche trying to stay afloat down the creek in a blow-up kiddie canoe!
You were always a “woman on a mission” when you found a good cause....from gathering thousands of Green and Lucky Strike stamps for new uniforms for the High School band (when none of us even played in the band) to canvassing the town with flyers and countless lawn signs for your candidate of choice. And we will never forget the election year you decorated the house in Red, White and Blue....we fondly called it “Republican Headquarters South.”
The countless hours at that sewing machine, making matching dresses with intricate details, with matching petticoats that stood out a mile.....and of course we had to have matching shoes and socks. And as we got older, the costumes for plays, drill team, cheerleading, prom dresses, and wedding dresses....whatever it was, we always had the most unique and beautiful.
And now, the Quilt Lady reigns supreme! I can’t even begin to imagine the many lives have been touched by the love and care that have gone into the 1000s of quilts that you have made and given out. Family and special friends all have them, every new baby born within your world has one. There have been countless Humanitarian projects through the church that has sent those bright and cheerful quilts all over the world. Hundreds of quilts for the Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions to tie so each child at the local hospitals can cuddle with a soft snuggly quilt. Those quilts even helped fund the kitchen in the Senior Citizen Center.
I luv you because...no matter what it was, you have been there for all of us with unconditional love and support. I don’t remember a school program, an out-of-tune orchestra concert, an very badly acted play, or anything that didn’t involve my best cheerleaders there, my Mom and Dad right there on the front row, with big proud smiles on their face. And I know you did that for each of us. Through thick and thin, through good and bad, you are always there!
For 80 years you have been a great Wife, Mom, Grandma, Grandma Great and Friend. We are so happy to be able to honor you for all that you have done and been for us!
